Osteopenia & Osteoporosis

OSTEOPOROSIS is a condition that causes bones to become thin and porous, decreasing bone strength and leading to an increased risk of breaking a bone. It can occur without symptoms and can strike at any age affecting both men and women.

Osteoporosis/Osteopenia is determined by bone mineral density (BMD) using a DXA (Dual energy X-ray Absorptometry) scan of your hip, spine or both. The amount of light passed through the bone is measured indicating how dense (thick or thin) the bones are.

Approximately 2 million Canadians are affected by osteoporosis. 1/3 women & 1/5 men will suffer a fracture from osteoporosis during their lifetime.
